Next Gen Program at LA County Museum of Art Awhile back, I discovered a free program for children at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art called NexGen. The first benefit after a child becomes a member is free admission until the age of 17 and also free admission for their parents. Also, the museum has a wonderful Sunday program filled with arts and crafts relating to a new topic each month. This month's topic is art from Roman and Greek period. The kids today tried their hand on pastel to draw Greek vases on black paper, paper mosaic art, and clay story writing. There is also a family tour on this topic, too, but I couldn't pry my kids away from crafting. We did visit the most recent exhibit before the kids dragged me to the Boone Children's Gallery. The topic there is Construct, and it will be there in LACMA West until June 2008. Then, LACMA West will be closed for construction for 2 years. The Children's area will be moved to the 2nd floor. Meanwhile, the new museum at LACMA called BCAM (Broad Contemporary Arts Museum) will be opened in February 2008. In fact, there is a free community weekend sponsored by Target; however, you must obtain free online tickets to be able to attend the new museum. Don't forget, Next Gen also has a wonderful program on school holidays.
